Gallagher goal fest Maidstone United 4 – 2 Chester

On a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher stadium, no-one could have predicted the goal fest that awaited each Stones fan before kick off. It started with Kevin Lokko, defender come striker with a superb finish that any forward player for Maidstone United would have been proud of.

Kevin Lokko’s finish was crucial to the good start that the Stones had wished for before the start of the game. The goal inspired the team to shot, header and believe they would score and so the rout commenced.  Delano Sam-Yorke claimed a well-deserved second goal, Joe Pigott managed to claim his first for the Stones and Kevin Lokko yes Lokko claimed his second goal of the game.

The Stones team looked solid in all areas of the park, awareness and confidence was oozing from these players and they were enjoying their football. The midfield was pulling the strings, the ball was being played from left to right. Every player wanted the ball at their feet and looked comfortable in possession. Players were battling for each other, the creativity and belief clearly visible.

The half time whistle blew and the Maidstone United players left the pitch for half time four-nil up to a standing ovation from the Stones fans the Chester players came away from the pitch looking shell shocked and wide eyed with disbelief.

Second half brought changes from the Chester side and a fight back from the away side began as the two sides battled out this National League contest.

Despite pulling back two goals back, one from a penalty in the end the Maidstone United ship was steadied and the Stones held on for an important victory and a valuable three points.

The performance was a brilliant team performance and Jay Saunders has every right to be pleased with his team.

The Stones well and truly are in this battle to stay in the National League and today proved that they have the ability and goal scoring prowess to be a real threat in this league.

Maidstone United’s next game is away to Braintree next Saturday and with four points from the last two games Maidstone United will be looking to build on their current points tally.
