Maidstone United vs Southport match preview

After Tuesdays, dramatic two-nil victory over high flying Dagenham and Redbridge, this weekend sees the Stones back at the Gallagher stadium.

The performance Tuesday night must go down as our best in the National League, another clean sheet, goals from Delano Sam-Yorke and Joe Pigott capped a super evening for the Stones.

Unfortunately, energetic midfielder Stuart Lewis picked up a red card against Dagenham and so will be unavailable for this weekend’s game against Southport. The Stones will also be without Alex Flisher who completes his two-match suspension.

Maidstone United do have replacements within the squad for this game, the likes of Jamar Loza, Bobby Joe Taylor and AFC Bournemouth loan player Jake McCarthy.

Sadly, up front it is Delano Sam-Yorke’s last game with Maidstone United after Woking terminated his loan.  Hopefully this is not goodbye, with Delano becoming a free agent at the end of the season Jay would not go far wrong making him his first signing for next season. Delano has been in inspiring form up front. Pigott and Yorke have become a formidable striking partnership of late.

This weekend’s game against Southport is an interesting one, the Stones go into the match four games unbeaten and with two clean sheets in the last two games.

I believe we will be too strong for Southport and with confidence blossoming within the team and numerous squad options available to Jay Saunders I can see a clean sheet and another Stones victory.

I would love to see Delano get a hattrick and the match ball but as long we win and the team gives a good account of themselves this will count just as much.

Come on you Stones !!!
