Saturday the Stones returned to the Gallagher stadium for a relegation dual with Southport.
Maidstone United were looking to extend there unbeaten run and put some distance between the rest of the relegation pack.
The Stones were without Stuart Lewis and Alex Flisher, so Jay introduced AFC Bournemouth loan player Jake McCarthy to the centre of midfield and Jamar Loza remained in the first eleven after being part of the team which so impressively beat Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday night.
The match was also sadly Delano Sam-Yorkes last match for the Stones, the striker has been an inspiration to the Maidstone United side.
The game started poorly for the Stones who looked a little jaded from Tuesday night’s performance. Southport took the lead after just three minutes when McKenna headed home.
Late in the first half the Stones ignited, a brilliant bit of hold up play by Joe Pigott who is starting to show his true qualities now and then some good lay of play to Jamar Loza.
Loza converted with an excellent finish and the Stones were back in the game.
The Stones applied the pressure and were rewarded with a penalty when Jamar Loza was brought down in the box by Ryan Higgens.
Despite Southport keepers hopes to put off Jamar Loza, he converted confidently and the Stones led two-one at the break.
Second half and Southport came out all guns blazing and on the fifty first minute equalised through Jamie Allen’s volleyed effort.
The Stones renewed self belief then shown through as again Loza and Pigott caused the Southport side more headaches. This time Loza turned provider for Pigott to coolly finish.
The victory was sealed when Kevin Lokko scored with a clinical finish.
Late on in the game Sam Delano Yorke left the pitch to be replaced by Yemi Odubade, Yorke’s time at Maidstone United had ended. What an inspirational loan signing he had been. The heart felt applause to celebrate his time at the Stones a true testament to a season changing player.
The Stones now go five points clear of the relegation pack, with ten games remaining until the end of the season there are still plenty of points to play for.
