Tuesday night the Stones lost their unbeaten record at Macclesfield Town as Maidstone United were soundly beaten.
The match was a bad day at the office for the Stones who have found the intense travelling to away games in such a short space of time hard work.
Macclesfield scored within just two minutes of the referee’s whistle, from then on the Stones were not at their best and exposed defensive frailties.
The players will hold up their hands to this result and I am sure there was a lot of soul searching on the way back to Maidstone.
We have all had a bad day at the office before, know what it feels like and now we need to shake this result and look to the Good Friday away game at Wrexham.
Maidstone United are still five points clear of the relegation pack and a couple of good results could seal our National League status.
Wrexham is another long journey but we cannot let distance impact the result of this game. The squad has sufficient depth to rest players and I believe now is the right time to do this.
Not only did the Stones lose three-nil but Stuart Lewis sustained an ankle injury during the game. Losing Stuart Lewis is a massive blow for the Stones.
How long will Stuart Lewis be out for? Who will be his immediate replacement?
The Stones have two options in Jake McCarthy and Harry Phipps. Jake McCarthy has not featured on the bench for a while, so he may have returned to AFC Bournemouth but if not he would be my first choice due to his pedigree with Harry Phipps featuring on the bench.
In defence, some changes are needed and I would be thinking of giving a debut to Magnus Okuonghae in the centre back position in place of Kevin Lokko.
Magnus has captained Colchester United in over hundred and ninety six matches and will lead the back four at a time when leadership is needed.
Kevin Lokko has played well in previous matches and the rest will prepare him for the remaining fixtures.
Jamar Loza has been out with a groin strain but came off the bench second half.
Loza should be a starter for the Wrexham game as we need the three points and in my view Joe Pigott is not the same player without him.
My bench would consist of Kevin Lokko, Yemi Odubade, Bobby Joe Taylor, Harry Phipps and Anthony Acheampong.
I believe changes to the starting eleven would add some energy to the side and enable the Stones to come away with a valuable three points. #Believe
