Despite a one-nil home defeat to an under strength Tranmere Rovers side the gloss could not be taken off such an impressive first season in the National League for Maidstone United.
The Stones finished fourteenth in the league with a total of fifty-eight points.
The players did a lap of honour at the full-time whistle which was met by rapturous applause and song.
The players, management staff and fans had been the team that had managed to keep Maidstone United in the national league and there was a real sense of appreciation from both sides.
The player awards followed and the results were as follows:
Managers Player and Players Player was awarded to Tom Mills.
Mr Consistency has had an excellent season and has looked comfortable at this level.
The twenty-five-year-old left back has gained valuable experience and will go from strength to strength next season.
Supporters Player of the season was awarded to Stuart Lewis.
A well-deserved award for Stuart Lewis the midfield engine who alongside Reece Prestedge created a formidable midfield partnership.
Lewis is a leader, his experience and ability proved invaluable in Maidstone United’s survival.
The end of season party began shortly after the awards and the players happily mingled with the supporters.
Manager Jay Saunders joined international DJ Nic Fanciulli behind the decks and the tunes kept on coming.
The best moment for me being the supporters and players in unison singing a rendition of ‘We’re The Black Amber Army’ to The White Stripes – ‘Seven Nation Army’ #EPIC
Players paused for photos, signings with fans young and old in what was a fitting tribute to the end of season.
So, season 2016/2017 is over and what a roller-coaster ride it has been would I change any of it no.
Bring on season 2017/18 come on you Stones!!!
