There have been many comings and goings this week with crowd favourites Yemi Odubade moving due to excessive travel and Bobby Joe Taylor unable to agree personal terms.
Jamie Coyle, Vas Karagiannis, Callum Driver, Ben Greenhalgh and Anthony Acheampong have all been released by Maidstone United.
Jamie Coyle has taken over as the new boss of Welling United, Vas Karagiannis has joined Margate and Ben Greenhalgh has signed for Hemel Hempstead.
The Stones manager has been busy and now we are starting to see the core of the Stones squad for the 2017/18 season.
Goalkeeper – Lee Worgan (club legend)
Defence – We are now aware that the impressive Kevin Lokko has signed on the dotted line for the season. Tom Mills and Magnus Okuonghae have been offered new contracts as well so hopefully there will be more good news to come on this front.
Defence currently: Seth Nana Twumasi, Kevin Lokko.
As it stands if Mills signs we need at least two centre backs and potentially another who can play anywhere across the back four.
Midfield currently: Jack Paxman, Stuart Lewis, Reece Prestedge and Harry Phipps.
A contract has been offered to Alex Flisher, hopefully we should get some more good news on this.
As it stands in Midfield if Flisher signs, I would say we need two more pacey attacking wingers.
Attack currently: Jack Richards and Delano Sam Yorke.
Jack Richards has excellent potential and is certainly a hot prospect for the future.
Delano Sam -Yorke for me is an excellent signing he has pace, strength, and power.
In attack Jay Saunders will know we are extremely lacking we have contracts on the table for Jamar Loza and Joe Pigott.
I would dearly love to see both players sign for us and it is my view that one more season with the Stones will not impact their careers.
Jamar Loza and Joe Pigott are more than capable of getting fifteen goals plus for the season and aid the Stones push into the top ten.
Joe Pigott will recognise he has not been a prolific goalscorer this season. In my view he still has a point to prove and the player will only get that opportunity if he plays regular first team football.
Both players will not want to look back on their careers and wonder what if?
Should Loza and Pigott not sign then the Stones will require at least two more strikers for the long season.
Overall I feel we would be looking at a squad breakdown of:
Two Goalkeepers, Six Defenders, Seven Midfielders, and Four Attackers.
A squad of nineteen, the key will be to keep these players happy.
Jay Saunders is building a strong squad and any player wishing to join the Stones will become part of a squad that has the potential to become a top ten team in the National league.
This along with a fantastic ground and support goes a long way for any player in the National league.
Join Maidstone United a club with ambition.
Come on you Stones!!!
